Karla,
you may want to have a look at this tweak for configuring your vista firewall. http://www.tweakvista.com/article39081.aspx
sharon,
i also agree it is probably better to wait for installing vista.
it seems microsoft is more worried about users pirating a copy of vista and using certain softwares with vista, then they are worried about trying to make vista more software friendly.
what i am hearing is it will be another year before microsft comes around.

Well I have good news and some bad news. Some of this is out of Vista and Microsoft's hands. The program vendors will decide to support Vista or now. From what I saw on Corel's website you need to get a update to make it compatible.

I am sure your Camera's manufacturer has updates also.

The other issue I have seen with older software is installing it without sufficient rights. If you are having issues with installing something try running the install program .exe as an administrator.

dave,
I removed vista from the advice of every sales or techie in shops. Even new buyers in every shop were saying wait till after october. I needed a new system so i bought one with vista, seeing how i already had xp. Lots of people are buying it with xp and won't take a tower with vista. I did try to install my corel wp and it would not take it. Also would not take the program for my new digital camera. I liked the look of it, it seems exciting. But reality is that I need my programs so that I can use it for more than internet. Honestly I can't wait to reformat and load it on. One techie said I could put both on but I'm not sure how that will affect the performance. Thanks guys, if you know anything about it taking programs a clue would be good. So far you have given me hope.

Sharon-

I know this isn't a cut and dry answer so I apologize, but it really is dependent on your software/hardware needs.

Most people are probably waiting to see a service pack come out that is why they are telling you to wait, but unless you have a specific issue that you believe is going to addressed by the SP it doesn't really make sense to wait.

Something you left off your comment though, is why you reinstalled XP? Was it media hype / "computer savy" friends that guided you, or was there a specific hardware/software you had problems with under Vista?

Hi there I am very upset. The firewall on vista is so difficult to configure. I have yet to find something in laymans language that will help me set it up...I have it somewhat working but in the mean time got infected with a keylogger Trojan with no fix.
I am not a careless user. I never had these problems with my Xp and ZoneAlarm AVG all working and up to date. I need some help....thanks Carli
